Ultimate Image Processing Guide
Understanding redaction styles, blur intensity, and export formats.
Whether you're protecting sensitive data or creating art, understanding how different processing styles affect your images is key. This guide covers the core features of ImagePixelator.
Redaction Styles
When you select a region in the Redaction tab, you have three primary options:
- Pixelate: The classic "mosaic" effect. It groups pixels into larger squares.
- Blur: Smooths out the details using a Gaussian-style algorithm. It's often perceived as "cleaner" but can sometimes be reversed if the blur radius is too small.
- Solid Mask: Completely covers the area with a solid color. This is the most secure method as it destroys all original pixel data in that region.
Tuning Intensity
- Pixel Size: Larger sizes result in more abstraction. For hiding text, a pixel size that is at least twice the height of the font is recommended.
- Blur Radius: A higher radius creates a smoother, more opaque blur. Ensure the content underneath becomes unreadable.
Advanced Selection
For professional workflows, drag-and-drop isn't always precise enough. Use the Advanced toggle to:
- Enter exact X and Y coordinates for the top-left corner.
- Specify the Width and Height in pixels.
- This is useful for processing batches of screenshots with consistent layouts (like hiding the same UI element across multiple shots).
Exporting & Privacy
We output standard web formats:
- JPEG: Best for photographs.
- PNG: Best for screenshots and pixel art.
- WebP: Best for web performance.
Pro Tip: Every export from ImagePixelator has its EXIF data stripped. This means information like your GPS location, camera settings, and timestamps are removed for your protection.
Conclusion
By mastering these tools, you can ensure your images are both visually appealing and securely redacted. Explore the pixelator tool to try these settings yourself.
